Joseph Edward Southall
Renascimento da témpera nas Artes e Ofícios
Joseph Edward Southall foi um pintor inglês associado ao movimento Arts and Crafts. Uma figura de destaque no renascimento da pintura a têmpera nos séculos XIX e início do XX, Southall foi o líder do Grupo de Artistas-Artesãos de Birmingham, um dos últimos redutos do Romantismo nas artes visuais e um elo importante entre os pré-rafaelitas tardios e os simbolistas da Slade School na virada do século. Quaker ao longo da vida, Southall foi um socialista e pacifista ativo, inicialmente como membro radical do Partido Liberal e, mais tarde, do Partido Trabalhista Independente. Southall foi eleito associado da Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) em 1898 e membro em 1902. Tornou-se presidente da sociedade em 1939 e permaneceu no cargo até sua morte em 1944.
