Jozef Brandt
Mestre das cenas de batalha
Józef Brandt foi um pintor polonês, representante da Escola de Munique, mais conhecido por suas pinturas de batalhas. Brandt estudou em Varsóvia na escola de J.N. Leszczynski e no Instituto de Nobres. Em 1858 partiu para Paris para estudar na École centrale Paris, mas foi persuadido por Juliusz Kossak a abandonar a engenharia em favor da pintura. Estudou pintura em Munique sob Franz Adam e Karl Piloty e depois abriu seu próprio estúdio. Suas pinturas estudam principalmente a vida militar do século XVII, embora ele também tenha feito alguns estudos sobre a vida dos camponeses poloneses. Em 1893, Brandt recebeu a Ordem de Isabel a Católica, e em 1898, tornou-se recipiente da Ordem Maximiliana da Baviera para a Ciência e a Arte.
