ユゼフ・シムレル
古典的なポーランド歴史画家
ヨゼフ・シムラーはポーランドの画家であり、その古典主義的な様式とポーランドの題材で知られています。 Simmlerは裕福なドイツのプロテスタント家庭の出身であった。この恵まれた育ちのおかげで、彼はDresden、Munich、Parisなどの都市への興味を追求することができた。 おそらく彼の最も有名な作品は、1860年に完成したキャンバスに油彩の作品『バルバラ・ラジヴィウの死』（ Józef Simmlerのポーランド芸術に対する主な貢献は、彼の絵画が喚起した人間性にある。彼は特別な才能を持った肖像画家であった。当時フランスで流行していた風俗画の様式を用いて、彼は大衆に過去を垣間見せる作品を制作した。しかし、彼の絵画は単なる歴史の再現にとどまらない。その見事な作品は、深い同情、恐怖、そして優しさをも伝えている。 彼の娘の義理の兄弟は、著名なポーランド系ドイツ人の植物学者であるエドゥアルト・シュトラスブルガーでした。Simmlerの孫の一人は、国際連盟のポーランド代表であるヘンリク・レオン・シュトラスブルガーでした。
