Inventou a heliogravura, ilustrador

Karel Václav Klíč foi um pintor, fotógrafo, artista de quadrinhos pioneiro, caricaturista, litógrafo e ilustrador tcheco. Foi um dos inventores da fotogravura (heliogravura em tcheco). Klíč tinha tanto talento artístico que foi admitido na Academia de Artes de Praga aos 14 anos. Por ridicularizar funcionários da escola, foi logo expulso, mas eventualmente terminou a escola em 1862. Klíč trabalhou como fotógrafo, caricaturista e ilustrador em Brno, Budapeste e Viena, sempre tentando melhorar a tecnologia de reprodução de imagens. Durante uma longa noite em 1877, enquanto trabalhava com gravação em relevo de zinco, descobriu por acaso um processo que levava à fotogravura. Melhorou ainda mais o processo em 1890, quando trabalhava na Inglaterra.
