Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach
Pintor simbolista y reformador naturista
Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach fue un pintor y reformador social alemán. Diefenbach nació en Hadamar, que entonces formaba parte del Ducado de Nassau. Fue un pionero de los movimientos naturista y pacifista. Su comuna rural, Himmelhof, en Ober Sankt Veit cerca de Viena (1897–1899), fue uno de los modelos para el asentamiento reformista Monte Verità en Ascona. Sus ideas incluían vivir en armonía con la naturaleza, el rechazo de la monogamia, el alejamiento de cualquier religión (aunque era seguidor de la teosofía) y una dieta vegetariana. Cuando su comuna quebró, se mudó a Capri y permaneció allí hasta su muerte en 1913. Como pintor, Diefenbach fue un representante independiente del simbolismo. Desde 1974, hay un museo de sus obras en la Certosa di San Giacomo en Capri.
