小林清親
明治近代化最後の浮世絵師
小林清親は日本の浮世絵師で、浮世絵の彩色木版画と新聞挿絵で最も知られています。彼の作品は、明治時代(1868–1912)に日本が経験した急速な近代化と西洋化を記録しており、西洋美術の技法に着想を得た明暗法「光線画」[ja]を用いています。 彼の作品は、明治維新後に大量に出現した赤レンガ造りの建物や列車を描いた版画で、1870年代に初めて観衆を獲得した;1894年から1895年の日清戦争を描いた版画も人気があった。この時期、木版画は人気が衰え、多くの収集家は小林の作品を浮世絵の最後の重要な例と考えている。
