路易-利奥波德·布瓦伊是一位法国画家和绘图员。作为一位才华横溢的流行肖像画创作者，他还创作了大量风俗画，生动地记录了法国中产阶级的社会生活。 Boilly出生于法国北部的拉巴塞，是当地一位木雕师的儿子。作为一名自学成才的画家，Boilly很小就开始了他的职业生涯，在十二三岁时创作了他的第一批作品。1774年，他开始向杜埃的奥斯定会修士展示他的作品，他们显然印象深刻：三年内，阿拉斯的主教邀请这位年轻人到他的主教辖区工作和学习。在那里，他创作了大量画作——约三百幅小型肖像作品。在约1787年移居巴黎之前，他曾师从Dominique Doncre（1743–1820）学习错视画技法。 Boilly是他那个时代一位广受欢迎且备受赞誉的画家。他是最早创作石版画的艺术家之一，并通过出售版画和绘画作品而致富。1804年，他因作品The Arrival of a Mail-coach in the Courtyard of the Messageries而获得巴黎沙龙颁发的奖章。1833年，他被授予国家最高荣誉勋章——Légion d'honneur的chevalier称号。
