Michel-François Dandré-Bardon

Michel François André-Bardon fu un pittore storico e incisore francese. Nacque ad Aix-en-Provence, in Francia. Firmava il suo nome come Dandré-Bardon o D. Bardon, poiché suo zio, Louis Bardon, lo nominò suo erede a condizione che mantenesse il cognome Bardon; ma il suo vero nome era André, come attestano i registri della chiesa di Santa Maddalena. Michel François fu destinato dai suoi genitori allo studio della giurisprudenza e studiò a Parigi. In 1719, he began to design during his leisure hours under the direction of Jean-Baptiste van Loo, and studied painting with J. F. de Troy. His progress was so rapid, that he obtained, in 1725, the second prize at the Royal Academy. He went afterwards to Rome, and after being there six years he returned to France, through Venice, where he stayed six months. He painted the Palais-de-Justice, the Hôtel-de-Ville (which perished in 1792), and the church of St. Jerome, at Aix. The work which he executed of 'Jason ploughing,' intended for the tapestry manufactory at Beauvais, has disappeared. Nel 1735 divenne membro dell'Accademia; nel 1752 professore; in seguito segretario; e infine insegnante di pittura storica. Fu anche il fondatore dell'Académie des Beaux-Arts di Marsiglia. Disegnava con grande facilità ed era un perfetto maestro nella rappresentazione del nudo. Morì a Parigi nel 1785.
