Orazio Gentileschi
Caravaggistische naturalistische decoratie
Orazio Lomi Gentileschi was een Italiaanse schilder. Geboren in Toscane, begon hij zijn carrière in Rome, waar hij schilderde in een maniëristische stijl; veel van zijn werk bestond uit het schilderen van figuren binnen de decoratieve schema’s van andere kunstenaars. Na 1600 kwam hij onder de invloed van de meer naturalistische stijl van Caravaggio. Hij ontving belangrijke opdrachten in Fabriano en Genua voordat hij naar Parijs verhuisde naar het hof van Maria de’ Medici. Hij bracht het laatste deel van zijn leven door aan het hof van Karel I van Engeland. Hij was de vader van de schilderes Artemisia Gentileschi.
