Paolo Veronese

Paolo Veronese was een Italiaanse kunstschilder uit de Renaissance, gevestigd in Venetië, bekend om zijn grootschalige historische schilderijen met religieuze en mythologische thema’s, zoals De Bruiloft te Kana (1563) en Het Feestmaal in het Huis van Levi (1573). Samen met Titiaan, een generatie ouder, en Tintoretto, een decennium ouder, maakt Veronese deel uit van het “grote trio dat de Venetiaanse schilderkunst van de Cinquecento” en de late Renaissance in de 16e eeuw domineerde. Bekend als een voortreffelijk colorist, ontwikkelde Paolo Veronese na een vroege periode binnen het maniërisme een naturalistische schilderstijl, beïnvloed door Titiaan.
