Richard Cooper l'Ancien
Graveur anglais actif à Édimbourg
Richard Cooper l'aîné était un graveur anglais qui a travaillé à Édimbourg pendant la majeure partie de sa carrière. Cooper est né à Londres et a étudié la gravure sous la direction de John Pine. À la mort de son père, il a pu visiter l'Italie, où il a passé plusieurs années à étudier les maîtres, devenant un artiste compétent et formant une collection de dessins et d'estampes. À son retour en Angleterre, Cooper se rendit à Édimbourg avec un certain M. Guthrie, où il s'installa comme graveur. Il construisit une maison dans St. John Street, qu'il décora avec ses propres tableaux. Il prit des apprentis, dont Robert Strange. Cooper est mort en 1764 et a été enterré dans le cimetière de l'église de Canongate, à Édimbourg.
