Richard Cooper, o Velho
Gravador inglês atuou em Edimburgo
Richard Cooper, o mais velho, foi um gravador inglês que trabalhou em Edimburgo durante a maior parte da sua carreira. Cooper nasceu em Londres e estudou gravura com John Pine. Após a morte de seu pai, ele pôde visitar a Itália, onde passou vários anos estudando os mestres, tornando-se um artista competente e formando uma coleção de desenhos e gravuras. Ao retornar à Inglaterra, Cooper foi com um certo Sr. Guthrie para Edimburgo, onde se estabeleceu como gravador. Construiu uma casa na St. John Street, que decorou com suas próprias pinturas. Aceitou aprendizes, incluindo Robert Strange. Cooper morreu em 1764 e foi sepultado no cemitério da igreja de Canongate, em Edimburgo.
