Richard Westall
Pintor de Byron e tutor real
Richard Westall, membro da Royal Academy, foi um pintor e ilustrador inglês de retratos e de eventos históricos e literários, mais conhecido pelos seus retratos de Byron. Foi também o mestre de desenho da rainha Vitória. Westall foi o mais bem-sucedido dos dois meio-irmãos (ambos filhos de um Benjamin Westall, de Norwich), que se tornaram pintores. Seu meio-irmão mais novo era William Westall (1781–1850), um pintor de paisagens que viajou muito. Nascido em 2 de janeiro de 1765 em Reepham, perto de Norwich (onde foi batizado na igreja de All Saints em 13 de janeiro do mesmo ano), Richard Westall mudou-se para Londres após a morte de sua mãe e a falência de seu pai em 1772. Westall foi aprendiz de um gravador heráldico de prata em 1779, onde foi encorajado a tornar-se pintor por John Alefounder; depois começou a estudar na Royal Academy School of Arts em 10 de dezembro de 1785. Ele expôs regularmente na Academia entre 1784 e 1836, tornou-se Associado em novembro de 1792 e foi eleito Acadêmico em 10 de fevereiro de 1794. De 1790 a 1795, ele dividiu uma casa com Thomas Lawrence (mais tarde Sir), futuro presidente da Royal Academy, no 57 da Greek Street, na esquina da Soho Square, cada um dos artistas colocando seu nome em uma das entradas.
