开创19世纪美国彩色石印
Major & Knapp 最初于1846年在纽约市成立，名为 Sarony & Major，由石版印刷师兼摄影师拿破仑·萨罗尼（Napoleon Sarony，1821-1896）与亨利·B·梅杰（Henry B. Major）合伙创立。随着约瑟夫·F·纳普（Joseph F. Knapp，约1830-1889）晋升为合伙人，以及理查德·C·梅杰（Richard C. Major）于1857年接替亨利·B·梅杰，公司重组为 Sarony, Major & Knapp。1863年，萨罗尼退出公司，公司更名为 Major & Knapp。1878至1879年间，Major & Knapp 在费城设有分部，地址为南第三街150号。该公司在19世纪40年代的纽约以生产彩色石版画而闻名，尤其是彩色乐谱封面；而在19世纪70年代后期费城分部活跃期间，公司的专长转向广告贸易卡和烟草盒标签。
