Sir Wilfrid Lawson

Sir Wilfrid Lawson, segundo baronet, fue un activista inglés de la templanza y un político radical y antiimperialista del Partido Liberal que ocupó escaños en la Cámara de los Comunes en varios períodos entre 1859 y 1906. Fue reconocido como el principal humorista de la Cámara de los Comunes. Lawson fue miembro del Parlamento por Carlisle de 1859 a 1865 y de 1868 a 1885, por Cockermouth de 1886 a 1900, por Camborne de 1903 a 1906 y nuevamente por Cockermouth en 1906. Era hijo de Sir Wilfrid Lawson, primer baronet de Brayton, quien cambió su apellido de Wybergh, y de Caroline Graham, hija de Sir James Graham. Recibió educación privada en casa. Fue miembro fundador tanto del National Liberal Club como de la Reform League, miembro destacado de la Peace Society y de la Society for the Suppression of the Opium Trade. Fue director de la compañía ferroviaria Maryport and Carlisle Railway y juez de paz para Cumberland. Siempre fue un entusiasta de la causa de la templanza y en 1879 se convirtió en presidente de la United Kingdom Alliance. Al igual que su hermano menor William, era un cooperativista y agricultor con visión de futuro.
