托马斯·黑斯廷斯
业余蚀刻威尔逊风景画
托马斯·黑斯廷斯上尉原名托马斯·巴尼特，是一位律师的儿子。1812年，他和他的兄弟都将姓氏改为他们母系曾祖母的姓氏，因为他们的父亲于1807年被判伪证罪。托马斯在1795年至1811年间担任英国陆军军官，期间接受测量员培训，在印度服役，并于1799年晋升为上尉。从1819年到1853年，他在海关部门任职，主要担任高级别的税务司长职务。 他是一位专注的业余画家、素描家、水彩艺术家和版画家，创作题材涵盖风景画、地形景观、海洋主题和海岸场景。作为版画家，他成为利物浦艺术学院的准会员，并在多个机构广泛展出作品，包括皇家艺术学院、水彩画家协会、英国学会和希伯尼安学院。他还是射箭运动的积极推广者，并于1829年创立了卡里斯布鲁克射箭协会。 黑斯廷斯受到威尔士风景画家理查德·威尔逊（皇家艺术学院院士，1714–1782）的影响。他制作了四十幅威尔逊画作的蚀刻版画（其中两幅为他所收藏），并于1824年作为系列作品出版。
