水野年方
融合西畫的浮世繪傳人
水野年方出生於江戶，原名野中久米次郎，是一位抹灰工匠大師的兒子。十四歲時，年方開始在吉芳的指導下學習浮世繪。這位著名浮世繪大師的狂放行徑讓年方的父親難以忍受，因此訓練被迫中斷。隨後，年方師從多位老師：向山田龍陶學習陶瓷繪畫和西洋畫，向柴田抱春學習南畫風格山水畫，以及向渡邊省亭和三島松莊學習。 他透過英國的雜誌、報紙和繪畫複製品，進一步探索西式渲染技法。後來，Toshikata 回到了 Yoshitoshi 的工作室。他的老師對這位年輕藝術家青睞有加，並指定他為繼承人。1887年，在老師的推薦下，Toshikata 加入《大和新聞》（Yamato shinbun）擔任插畫師。他在該雜誌社工作至1894年。他還為文學雜誌《新小說》（Shinshosetsu）創作了幾幅石版畫，並在甲午戰爭期間製作了戰爭繪（senso-e）。
