Utagawa Kuniyoshi
Maître des estampes de samouraïs
Utagawa Kuniyoshi fut l'un des derniers grands maîtres du style japonais ukiyo-e de gravures sur bois et de peinture. Il appartenait à l'école Utagawa. Les sujets abordés par Kuniyoshi couvraient de nombreux genres : paysages, belles femmes, acteurs de kabuki, chats et animaux mythiques. Il est connu pour ses représentations des batailles de héros samouraïs légendaires. Son œuvre intégrait des éléments de la représentation occidentale dans la peinture de paysage et la caricature.
