Victor Alfred Lundy
Chef de file du modernisme sarasotain
Victor Alfred Lundy est un architecte américain. Exemplaire de l'architecture moderniste, il était l'un des dirigeants de l'École d'architecture de Sarasota. Lundy est né en 1923 à New York. Il a servi dans la 26e division d'infanterie de l'armée américaine pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. En 1942, Lundy avait 19 ans et étudiait pour devenir architecte à New York. Enthousiasmé par la reconstruction de l'Europe après la guerre, lui et d'autres étudiants universitaires se sont engagés dans le Programme spécial d'entraînement de l'armée (ASTP). Après la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Lundy a obtenu un diplôme en architecture à la Harvard Graduate School of Design. Le fait d'avoir remporté la prestigieuse bourse de voyage Rotch lui a permis de voyager à l'étranger. En 1954, Lundy a ouvert un cabinet d'architecture à Sarasota, en Floride. En 1967, l'American Institute of Architects l'a nommé Fellow, l'une de ses plus hautes distinctions. Lundy a déménagé à Houston, au Texas, dans les années 1970. Parmi les bâtiments remarquables conçus par cet artiste-architecte de renom figurent des églises aux lignes de toit élancées, la Chambre de commerce de Sarasota, la Cour fiscale des États-Unis et l'ambassade des États-Unis au Sri Lanka.
