美國冬景畫大師
沃爾特·勞恩特·帕爾默是一位美國印象派畫家。帕爾默的父親埃拉斯特斯·道·帕爾默是一位著名的雕塑家，家中常有他父親的朋友來訪，其中包括弗雷德里克·埃德溫·丘奇。帕爾默最初在肖像畫家查爾斯·洛林·埃利奧特門下接受正式的藝術訓練，但後來是當時首屈一指的風景畫家丘奇指導他學習風景畫。 1873年，帕爾默為與卡羅勒斯-杜蘭合作，進行了多次出國旅行中的一次。正是在這一時期，他結識了卡羅勒斯-杜蘭的另一位年輕學生約翰·辛格·薩金特。這位藝術家繼續頻繁且長時間地前往歐洲旅行，並對法國印象派產生了日益濃厚的興趣，同時對威尼斯題材保持著持久的吸引力。當帕爾默返回美國時，他大部分時間待在奧爾巴尼，威廉·哈特、詹姆斯·哈特、荷馬·道奇·馬丁和愛德華·蓋伊等藝術家也在此作畫。在這裡，帕爾默開始繪製建築內部場景，這是他第一個重要的作品系列。他還曾在紐約市的第十街工作室大樓工作過一段時間。 帕爾默最著名的作品是冬季風景畫，他從19世紀80年代中期直至生命盡頭一直延續這一傳統。憑藉這些成就，他被譽為「美國冬季畫家」。展出帕爾默作品的展覽包括霍桑美術畫廊的《完美的孤獨：華特·勞恩特·帕爾默（1854–1932）的藝術》（2006年12月12日–2007年2月10日），以及奧爾巴尼歷史與藝術協會的《華特·勞恩特·帕爾默：描繪瞬間》（2015年3月28日–8月16日）。
