Władysław Teodor Benda

Władysław Teodor «W.T.» Benda fue un pintor, ilustrador y diseñador polaco. Hijo del músico Jan Szymon Benda y sobrino de la actriz Helena Modrzejewska (conocida en Estados Unidos como Helena Modjeska), W.T. Benda estudió arte en la Universidad de Tecnología y Arte de Cracovia, en su Polonia natal, y en la Academia de Bellas Artes de Viena, Austria. Llegó a Estados Unidos en 1899 para visitar a su tía Helena, que entonces vivía en California. Se quedó y se mudó a la ciudad de Nueva York en 1902, donde asistió a la Liga de Estudiantes de Arte de Nueva York y a la Escuela William Merritt Chase. Durante ese tiempo, Benda estudió con Robert Henri y Edward Penfield. Se unió a la Society of Illustrators en 1907, a la Architectural League en 1916 y se convirtió en ciudadano estadounidense naturalizado en 1911. También fue miembro de la National Society of Mural Painters. Permaneció en Nueva York el resto de su vida. Benda se casó con Romola Campfield, y tuvieron dos hijas, Eleonora y Basia, que eran ambas artistas.
