Władysław Teodor Benda

Władysław Teodor "W.T." Benda è stato un pittore, illustratore e designer polacco. Figlio del musicista Jan Szymon Benda e nipote dell'attrice Helena Modrzejewska (nota negli Stati Uniti come Helena Modjeska), W.T. Benda studiò arte presso l'Università di Tecnologia e Arte di Cracovia, nella sua Polonia natale, e presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Vienna, in Austria. Arrivò negli Stati Uniti nel 1899 per visitare sua zia Helena, che allora viveva in California. Rimase e si trasferì a New York City nel 1902, dove frequentò l'Art Students League of New York e la William Merritt Chase School. Durante quel periodo, Benda studiò sotto la guida di Robert Henri ed Edward Penfield. Si unì alla Society of Illustrators nel 1907, alla Architectural League nel 1916 e divenne cittadino statunitense naturalizzato nel 1911. Fu anche membro della National Society of Mural Painters. Rimase a New York per il resto della sua vita. Benda sposò Romola Campfield, ed ebbero due figlie, Eleonora e Basia, che erano entrambe artiste.
