Władysław Teodor Benda

Władysław Teodor "W.T." Benda foi um pintor, ilustrador e designer polonês. Filho do músico Jan Szymon Benda e sobrinho da atriz Helena Modrzejewska (conhecida nos Estados Unidos como Helena Modjeska), W.T. Benda estudou arte na Universidade de Tecnologia e Arte de Cracóvia, em sua Polônia natal, e na Academia de Belas-Artes de Viena, na Áustria. Ele veio aos Estados Unidos em 1899 para visitar sua tia Helena, que então morava na Califórnia. Ele permaneceu e mudou-se para a cidade de Nova York em 1902, onde frequentou a Art Students League of New York e a William Merritt Chase School. Durante esse período, Benda estudou com Robert Henri e Edward Penfield. Ele ingressou na Society of Illustrators em 1907, na Architectural League em 1916 e tornou-se cidadão americano naturalizado em 1911. Também foi membro da National Society of Mural Painters. Ele permaneceu em Nova York pelo resto de sua vida. Benda casou-se com Romola Campfield, e eles tiveram duas filhas, Eleonora e Basia, que eram ambas artistas.
