Adam Willaerts

Adam Willaerts fue un pintor de la Edad de Oro neerlandesa. Willaerts (ocasionalmente Willarts o Willers) nació en Londres de padres flamencos que habían huido de Amberes por razones religiosas. Para 1585, la familia vivía en Leiden. Desde 1597 hasta su muerte, Adam vivió y trabajó en Utrecht. Se convirtió en miembro de la Gremio de San Lucas de Utrecht en 1611 y posteriormente fue su decano en 1620. Sus hijos Cornelis, Abraham e Isaac siguieron sus pasos. Era conocido como pintor de escenas fluviales y de canales, paisajes costeros, mercados de pescado, procesiones y escenas de género. También pintaba pueblos y batallas navales. Su alegoría de la victoria de los holandeses sobre la flota española en Gibraltar se encuentra en el Rijksmuseum.
