Adam Willaerts

Adam Willaerts foi um pintor da Era de Ouro holandesa. Willaerts (por vezes Willarts ou Willers) nasceu em Londres de pais flamengos que tinham fugido de Antuérpia por razões religiosas. Em 1585, a família vivia em Leiden. De 1597 até à sua morte, Adam viveu e trabalhou em Utrecht. Tornou-se membro da Guilda de São Lucas de Utrecht em 1611 e, subsequentemente, foi seu decano em 1620. Os seus filhos Cornelis, Abraham e Isaac seguiram os seus passos. Era conhecido como pintor de cenas fluviais e de canais, paisagens costeiras, mercados de peixe, procissões e cenas de género. Também pintava aldeias e batalhas navais. Sua alegoria da vitória dos holandeses sobre a frota espanhola em Gibraltar está no Rijksmuseum.
