Albert Levering
Amerikaans krantentekenaar
Albert Levering werd geboren in Hope, Indiana, de zoon van Levi L. Levering, een timmerman. Het gezin verhuisde later naar Kansas City, Missouri. Levering studeerde architectuur en oefende dat beroep acht jaar lang uit in San Antonio, Texas. Hij verliet later de architectuur om krantenkunstenaar te worden. Levering werkte voor kranten in Kansas City, Missouri, evenals voor de Minneapolis Times en de Chicago Tribune. In 1896 verhuisde hij naar New York en werkte voor de New York Journal, Tribune en Herald-Tribune. Vervolgens werkte hij als boek- en tijdschriftillustrator voor het personeel van Puck, Life, Collier's en Cosmopolitan. Tegen 1903 had hij een regelmatige rubriek over een volledige pagina in Harper's Weekly. In 1909 tekende Levering de omslag en het frontispice voor Mark Twains korte boek Extract from Captain Stormfield's Visit to Heaven.
