안드레아 만테냐
조각적 원근감과 장엄한 인물
안드레아 만테냐는 이탈리아 화가이자 로마 고고학 학생이며, 야코포 벨리니의 사위였다. 당시 다른 예술가들과 마찬가지로 만테냐는 원근법을 실험했는데, 예를 들어 지평선을 낮추어 더욱 장엄한 느낌을 연출하기도 했다. 부싯돌처럼 단단하고 금속적인 질감의 풍경과 다소 석상 같은 인물 묘사는 그의 회화가 근본적으로 조각적인 접근 방식을 취하고 있음을 보여준다. 또한 그는 작업실을 이끌었으며, 이 작업실은 1500년 이전 베네치아에서 판화를 가장 많이 생산하는 중심지였다。
