Andreas Cellarius
Maakte de sterrenatlas Harmonia Macrocosmica
Andreas Cellarius was een Nederlands-Duitse cartograaf en kosmograaf, vooral bekend om zijn Harmonia Macrocosmica uit 1660, een belangrijke sterrenatlas. Hij werd geboren in Neuhausen en kreeg zijn opleiding in Heidelberg. De protestant Cellarius heeft Heidelberg mogelijk verlaten bij het begin van de Dertigjarige Oorlog in 1618 of in 1622, toen de stad in katholieke handen viel. Zijn activiteiten zijn in deze periode onduidelijk, maar op basis van zijn latere werken wordt vermoed dat hij tijd doorbracht in Polen, waar hij mogelijk als militair ingenieur werkte. In 1625 trouwde hij met Catharina Eltemans in Amsterdam, waar hij als schoolmeester aan een Latijnse school werkte. Na een kort verblijf in Den Haag verhuisde het gezin naar Hoorn. Van 1637 tot zijn dood was hij rector van de Latijnse School in Hoorn, waar Pieter Anthoniszoon Overtwater conrector was. De planetoïde 12618 Cellarius is naar hem vernoemd ter ere van hem.
