Antonio Joli
Maestro de vistas y caprichos
Antonio Francesco Lodovico Joli fue un pintor italiano de vedute y capricci. Nacido en Módena, fue inicialmente aprendiz de Rafaello Rinaldi. Luego estudió en Roma con Giovanni Paolo Panini y en los estudios de la familia Galli da Bibbiena, pintores escenográficos. Se convirtió en pintor de decorados teatrales en Módena y Perugia. En 1732 se trasladó a Venecia, donde trabajó como pintor escenográfico para producciones de ópera en el Teatro di San Giovanni Grisostomo y el Teatro San Samuele de la familia Grimani. En 1742 fue a Dresde, y luego a Londres (1744–48) y Madrid (1750–54). En Londres, decoró la mansión de Richmond de John James Heidegger, entonces director del King's Theatre en Haymarket. Joli regresó a Venecia en 1754, donde se convirtió en uno de los 36 miembros fundadores de la Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia. Se trasladó a la corte borbónica de Nápoles en 1761 y murió allí el 29 de abril de 1777.
