Antonio Joli
Maître des vues et caprices
Antonio Francesco Lodovico Joli était un peintre italien de vedute et de capricci. Né à Modène, il fut d'abord apprenti auprès de Rafaello Rinaldi. Il étudia ensuite à Rome sous la direction de Giovanni Paolo Panini, et dans les ateliers de la famille Galli da Bibbiena, peintres de décors de théâtre. Il devint peintre de décors de scène à Modène et à Pérouse. En 1732, il s'installa à Venise, où il travailla comme peintre de décors pour les productions d'opéra au Teatro di San Giovanni Grisostomo et au Teatro San Samuele de la famille Grimani. En 1742, il partit pour Dresde, puis pour Londres (1744–1748) et Madrid (1750–1754). À Londres, il décora la demeure de Richmond de John James Heidegger, alors directeur du King's Theatre sur Haymarket. Joli retourna à Venise en 1754, où il devint l'un des 36 membres fondateurs de l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia. Il s'installa à la cour bourbonienne de Naples en 1761 et y mourut le 29 avril 1777.
