Attilio Mussino fue un pintor y caricaturista italiano, conocido principalmente por diseñar las ilustraciones de la primera edición a color de Las aventuras de Pinocho de Carlo Collodi en 1911. Durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, Mussino fue un soldado que utilizó sus habilidades artísticas para dibujar escenas de los campos de batalla franceses y actividades cotidianas de operaciones militares. Formado en la Academia Albertina de Bellas Artes en Turín, Italia —una institución de educación superior con siglos de antigüedad—, Mussino ilustró numerosos libros infantiles, incluidos los cuentos de los hermanos Grimm y Hans Christian Andersen, así como Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer de Mark Twain. Además de sus numerosos logros artísticos, Mussino será recordado sobre todo por su retrato definitivo del travieso personaje Pinocho, y por la versión de este importante cuento de hadas que es la obra de literatura infantil más reimpresa y superventas.
