Augustus Pugin
Pioniere del revival gotico
Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin fu un architetto, designer, artista e critico inglese principalmente ricordato per il suo ruolo pionieristico nello stile dell'architettura gotica revivalista. Il suo lavoro culminò nella progettazione dell'interno del Palazzo di Westminster a Westminster, Londra, Inghilterra, e della sua iconica torre dell'orologio, successivamente ribattezzata Torre Elizabeth, che ospita la campana nota come Big Ben. Pugin progettò molte chiese in Inghilterra e alcune in Irlanda e Australia. Era figlio di Auguste Pugin e padre di Edward Welby Pugin e Peter Paul Pugin, che continuarono la sua impresa architettonica con il nome di Pugin & Pugin. Progettò anche il Castello di Alton ad Alton, nello Staffordshire.
