Benedetto Luti
Pionier des Pastells als Werk
Benedetto Luti war ein italienischer Maler. Luti wurde am 17. November 1666 in Florenz geboren. Im Jahr 1691 zog er nach Rom, wo er von Cosimo III. de’ Medici, dem Großherzog der Toskana, gefördert wurde, der ein begeisterter Anhänger von Lutis Pastellporträts war. Luti gehörte zu den ersten Künstlern, die Pastelle als eigenständige Endkompositionen schufen und nicht nur als Vorstudien für Gemälde oder Fresken verwendeten. Er arbeitete auch mit Ölfarben und malte Fresken, unter anderem für die Basilika San Giovanni in Laterano. Luti war auch ein erfolgreicher Kunsthändler und leitete eine Zeichenschule. Im Jahr 1720 wurde er an der Akademie von St. Lukas in Rom zum Ritter geschlagen und zum Principe gewählt.
