Benedetto Luti
Pionnier du pastel comme œuvre
Benedetto Luti était un peintre italien. Luti est né à Florence le 17 novembre 1666. En 1691, il s'installa à Rome, où il bénéficia du mécénat de Cosme III de Médicis, grand-duc de Toscane, grand amateur des portraits au pastel de Luti. Luti fut l'un des premiers artistes à utiliser le pastel comme œuvre finale plutôt que comme simple étude préparatoire pour des peintures ou des fresques. Il travailla également à l'huile et réalisa des fresques, notamment pour la basilique Saint-Jean-de-Latran. Luti était également un marchand d'art prospère et dirigeait une école de dessin. En 1720, il fut fait chevalier à l'Académie de Saint-Luc de Rome et élu Principe.
