Benedetto Luti
Pioneiro do pastel como obra
Benedetto Luti foi um pintor italiano. Luti nasceu em Florença em 17 de novembro de 1666. Em 1691, mudou-se para Roma, onde recebeu o patrocínio de Cosme III de Médici, Grão-Duque da Toscana, um entusiasta dos retratos em pastel de Luti. Luti foi um dos primeiros artistas a utilizar o pastel como composição final, em vez de apenas como estudos iniciais para pinturas ou afrescos. Ele também trabalhou com óleo e pintou afrescos, incluindo obras para a Basílica de São João de Latrão. Luti também foi um bem-sucedido comerciante de arte e dirigiu uma escola de desenho. Em 1720, foi nomeado cavaleiro na Academia de São Lucas de Roma e eleito Principe.
