Benjamin Gerritsz. Cuyp

Benjamin Gerritszoon Cuyp foi um pintor de paisagens do Século de Ouro holandês. Cuyp nasceu e morreu em Dordrecht. De acordo com Houbraken, ele foi aluno de seu tio, Jacob Gerritsz Cuyp, que o ensinou junto com seu filho (primo de Benjamin) Aelbert Cuyp. Houbraken achava que Aelbert tinha pinceladas mais nítidas, enquanto Benjamin mostrava a abordagem rude de seu mestre. De acordo com o RKD, Houbraken se enganou sobre a família, e Benjamin e Jacob nasceram ambos em Dordrecht como filhos de um pintor de vidro de Venlo chamado Gerrit Gerritsz Cuyp. Benjamin aprendeu a pintar com seu meio-irmão mais velho, Jacob Gerritsz Cuyp. Ele era, portanto, o tio, e não o primo, do muito mais famoso Aelbert Cuyp. Ele é conhecido por peças alegóricas, obras de gênero, cenas de praia, cenas militares e paisagens. Influenciou Barent van Kalraet, e foi seguido por Maerten Fransz van der Hulst.
