意大利画家，以生动的城市水景和建筑特色画作闻名。卡洛·格鲁巴克斯于1812年出生于威尼斯。他的父亲是一名商船船长，其家族原籍黑山，于18世纪下半叶定居意大利。他属于威尼斯“景观画派”，该画派在18世纪因卡纳莱托和弗朗切斯科·瓜尔迪等艺术家而兴盛。 他曾就读于威尼斯美术学院，并于1847年、1855年、1858年和1864年在该学院展出作品。他的画作通常尺寸较小，以细腻生动的方式呈现威尼斯景观，延续了19世纪威尼斯风景画的传统，将巧妙精湛的素描与明亮鲜艳的色调相结合。
