Charles Empson
Aquarelas botânicas sul-americanas
Charles Empson, um comerciante de gravuras e aquarelas em Bath, Inglaterra, passou três anos viajando pela parte norte da América do Sul, principalmente no que hoje é a Colômbia, de 1824 a 1827. Seus desenhos originais das plantas exóticas da América do Sul, que ele encontrou pela primeira vez naquela viagem, apresentam um artista de técnica e realizações excelentes, mais conhecido pelas narrativas de suas viagens pela América do Sul. Empson viajou de Cienega, na costa norte da Colômbia, através das cordilheiras central e oriental dos Andes até Honda, no sul, pelo rio Magdalena, e em direção ao leste, entrando na Venezuela.
