Charles Williams
Principal caricaturiste britannique
Charles Williams était un caricaturiste, graveur et illustrateur britannique. Il fut le principal caricaturiste entre 1799 et 1815 pour le célèbre éditeur britannique S. W. Fores. Il travaillait dans un style similaire à celui de James Gillray. Dans ses premières œuvres, Williams utilisait les pseudonymes Ansell ou Argus ; avec George Cruikshank et d'autres, il illustra The Every-Day Book de William Hone, édité entre 1825 et 1826. Williams fut le premier parmi beaucoup à caricaturer le 1er duc de Wellington ; il publia un dessin de lui en septembre 1808, pendant la guerre péninsulaire, dans lequel le duc coupe la queue de cheval du général français Jean-Andoche Junot, vaincu à la bataille de Vimeiro.
