Pioniere della litografia americana
La Donaldson Lithographing Company iniziò come una piccola attività di litografia con sede a Cincinnati, Ohio (10 agosto 1863). William M. Donaldson e Henry Elms fondarono l'azienda come partner fino alla morte di Elms nel 1872. Dopo la morte di Elms, Donaldson rimase l'unico responsabile dell'azienda. Nel 1883, Donaldson incorporò ufficialmente l'attività come Donaldson Lithograph Company. L'azienda prosperò dopo il trasferimento a Newport, Kentucky, nel 1898. Donaldson aggiunse un'altra sede a Covington, Kentucky, specializzata nella creazione di insegne artistiche. William Donaldson morì il 22 ottobre 1931. Aveva 91 anni. L'azienda rimase nella famiglia fino al 1981.
