Pionier van Amerikaanse lithografie
The Donaldson Lithographing Company begon als een klein lithografiebedrijf gevestigd in Cincinnati, Ohio (10 augustus 1863). William M. Donaldson en Henry Elms richtten het bedrijf op als partners tot de dood van Elms in 1872. Na de dood van Elms bleef Donaldson alleen verantwoordelijk voor het bedrijf. In 1883 incorporateerde Donaldson het bedrijf officieel als Donaldson Lithograph Company. Het bedrijf floreerde na de verhuizing naar Newport, Kentucky, in 1898. Donaldson voegde een andere locatie toe in Covington, Kentucky, die gespecialiseerd was in het maken van kunstborden. William Donaldson overleed op 22 oktober 1931. Hij was 91 jaar oud. Het bedrijf bleef tot 1981 in familiebezit.
