南北戦争版画と牧歌的絵画
エドウィン・オースティン・フォーブスは、アメリカの風景画家およびエッチング作家であり、南北戦争中に戦場の戦闘シーンを含む軍事主題の詳細でドラマチックなスケッチで最初に名声を得ました。 フォーブスはニューヨークで生まれ、アーサー・フィッツウィリアム・テイトに師事し、動物と風景の画家としてキャリアを始めました。南北戦争中、彼はフランク・レスリー誌の特派芸術家でした。彼が紛争中に描いた多くの活気のあるエッチングは、後にシャーマン将軍によって政府に寄贈されました。それらは歴史的価値により、現在ワシントンの戦争省に保存されています。 戦後、フォーブスは風景や牛の情景を描き、その中には「オレンジ郡の牧場」（1879年）や「夕暮れ—羊の牧場」（1881年）がある。1877年、彼はロンドン・エッチング・クラブの名誉会員に選ばれた。 彼は1895年にブルックリンで死去し、グリーンウッド墓地に埋葬されている。
