Edwin Forbes
Gravador da Guerra Civil
Edwin Austin Forbes foi um pintor de paisagens e gravurista americano que primeiro ganhou fama durante a Guerra Civil Americana por seus esboços detalhados e dramáticos de assuntos militares, incluindo cenas de combate no campo de batalha. Forbes nasceu em Nova York, estudou com Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait e começou como pintor de animais e paisagens. Durante a Guerra Civil, ele foi artista especial para a revista Frank Leslie. Muitas das gravuras animadas que ele desenhou durante o conflito foram posteriormente apresentadas pelo General Sherman ao governo. Elas agora estão preservadas no Departamento de Guerra em Washington devido ao seu valor histórico. Após a guerra, Forbes pintou paisagens e cenas de gado, entre as quais estão "Orange County Pasture" (1879) e "Evening—Sheep Pasture" (1881). Em 1877, ele foi nomeado membro honorário do London Etching Club. Ele morreu em 1895 no Brooklyn e está sepultado no Cemitério Green-Wood.
