Edwin Long
Maestro de escenas orientales
Edwin Long fue un pintor inglés de género, histórico, bíblico y retratista. Long nació en Bath, Somerset, hijo de James Long, un peluquero (de Kelston en Somerset), y fue educado en la escuela del Dr. Viner en Bath. Adoptando la profesión de pintor, Long llegó a Londres y estudió en el Museo Británico. Long fue muy influenciado por las pinturas de Velázquez y otros maestros españoles, y sus cuadros anteriores, como La Posada y Lazarilla and the blind beggar, fueron pintados bajo influencia española. En 1874, visitó Egipto y Siria, y posteriormente su trabajo tomó una nueva dirección. Se impregnó por completo de la arqueología de Oriente Medio y pintó escenas orientales incluyendo The Egyptian Feast, The Gods and their maker.
