Edwin Long
Mestre de cenas orientais
Edwin Long foi um pintor inglês de género, histórico, bíblico e retratista. Long nasceu em Bath, Somerset, filho de James Long, um cabeleireiro (de Kelston em Somerset), e foi educado na escola do Dr. Viner em Bath. Adotando a profissão de pintor, Long veio para Londres e estudou no Museu Britânico. Long foi grandemente influenciado pelas pinturas de Velázquez e outros mestres espanhóis, e suas imagens anteriores, como La Posada e Lazarilla and the blind beggar, foram pintadas sob influência espanhola. Em 1874, visitou o Egito e a Síria, e subsequentemente seu trabalho tomou uma nova direção. Ele tornou-se completamente imbuído de arqueologia do Médio Oriente e pintou cenas orientais incluindo The Egyptian Feast, The Gods and their maker.
