Eishōsai Chōki
Bellezze snelle in stampe atmosferiche
Eishōsai Chōki, noto anche come Momokawa Chōki, è stato un disegnatore di stampe giapponesi su legno in stile ukiyo-e, attivo dal 1786 circa al 1808. Lui, insieme a Utamaro, è stato allievo di Toriyama Sekien (1712–1788). Chōki è noto soprattutto per le sue immagini di belle donne slanciate, spesso con sfondi atmosferici. L'artista ha firmato la maggior parte delle sue opere come Chōki (長喜), ha anche firmato alcune opere come Eishōsai (栄松斎) o Shikō (子興). I dettagli della vita di Chōki sono oscuri. Probabilmente fu uno studente — e forse un figlio adottivo — di Toriyama Sekien. Chōki si specializzò nel ritrarre donne belle e ebbe diversi nomi d'arte: le opere firmate Chōki erano nello stile simile a quello di Kiyonaga, e quelle firmate Shikō a quello di Utamaro. Chōki visse nella casa dell'editore Tsutaya Jūzaburō, che pubblicò diverse serie di stampe di Chōki. Tra le serie più popolari di Chōki c'erano le Otto Viste del Lago Ōmi (Ōmi hakkei) e le Otto Viste del Tesoro dei Servitori Leali (Chūshingura hakkei). Produsse anche hashira-e (stampe pilastro), kachō-e (stampe di uccelli e fiori) e illustrazioni di libri. La sua ultima opera nota sono le illustrazioni per il libro Nakoso Gate (Nakoso no seki) di Kanwatei Onitake nel 1809.
