Ernest Lawson
Tra impressionismo e realismo
Ernest Lawson è stato un pittore canadese-statunitense e membro di The Eight, un gruppo di artisti che ha formato un’associazione libera nel 1908 per protestare contro la ristrettezza di gusti e le politiche espositive restrittive della conservatrice e potente National Academy of Design. Sebbene Lawson fosse principalmente un pittore paesaggista, ha anche dipinto un piccolo numero di scene urbane realistiche. Il suo stile pittorico è fortemente influenzato dall’arte di John Henry Twachtman, J. Alden Weir e Alfred Sisley. Sebbene considerato un impressionista americano, Lawson si colloca stilisticamente tra l’impressionismo e il realismo.
