Ernst Stückelberg
Pittore romantico svizzero storico
Ernst Stückelberg era un pittore svizzero nativo di Basilea, nato in una famiglia i cui legami con la città risalivano al XIV secolo. Morì a causa delle complicazioni del diabete. Fu uno degli artisti più popolari della sua generazione nella tradizione romantica, realizzando numerose pitture su vari temi (ritratti, scene di campagna e di villaggi, e allusioni storiche), tra cui una serie sull'eroe nazionale svizzero Guglielmo Tell. Assunse formalmente il nome Stückelberg nel 1881; tale cambiamento fu debitamente registrato dalle autorità di Basilea.
