Frank Arthur Nankivell

Frank Arthur Nankivell fue un artista y caricaturista político australiano, conocido por sus caricaturas en publicaciones como Puck. Nankivell nació en abril de 1869 en Maldon, al noroeste de Castlemaine, Victoria, hijo de John y Annie Nankivell. Fue ilustrador de libros en los círculos neoyorquinos de las décadas de 1910 y 1920, trabajando en publicaciones como Puck, que fue la primera revista de humor exitosa de América. Nankivell estudió arte en el Wesley College de Melbourne. Más tarde viajó a Japón y se ganó la vida como caricaturista en Tokio, donde conoció a Rakuten Kitazawa, quien más tarde se convirtió en el padre del arte cómico japonés ahora conocido como manga. Nankivell dejó Japón en 1894 para estudiar arte en San Francisco. Se fue a Nueva York en 1896, donde trabajó en revistas como caricaturista popular e influyente, dedicando su trabajo principalmente a temas sociales y a cuestiones políticas estatales y federales. Nankivell permaneció en Nueva York hasta 1913. Nankivell más tarde se convirtió en miembro del New York Circumnavigators Club, que estaba abierto solo a aquellos que habían circunnavegado el globo longitudinalmente, por tierra y/o mar. Otros miembros incluían a Ernest Hemingway y Harry Houdini.
