Fritz Winold Reiss war ein deutscher Lithograf, Illustrator, Grafiker und Maler. Reiss studierte an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf unter Karl Müller und Heinrich Lauenstein. Anschließend arbeitete er bis 1878 im lithografischen Geschäft seines Vaters in Düsseldorf. Von 1878 bis 1882 lebte er in Stuttgart, dann in Lahr (1882 bis 1886), Karlsruhe (1886 bis 1888), Leipzig (1888 bis 1892), danach wieder in Stuttgart und von 1899 bis 1908 in Freiburg im Breisgau in der Zasiusstraße 70. Reiss was a member of the artists' association "Breisgauer Fünfer", founded in 1899, whose chairman was Hermann Dischler. He had lived in Kirchzarten since 1908, where he joined the painters of the so-called Gutach artists' colony. In his drawings, watercolors and paintings, he captured the country, the people and the customs of the Black Forest in a narrative and humorous way, not without social criticism. He illustrated numerous magazines, novels and books, including picture books for children and youth literature, and designed postcards and ceramics. Der deutsch-amerikanische Maler Winold Reiss war sein zweiter Sohn.
